Ford reveals new LMDh car on track at Paul Ricard

Ford says the ORECA-based prototype completed its first shakedown as the company prepares for a 2027 World Endurance Championship debut.

  • On Monday, Ford's new LMDh Hypercar completed its maiden full track test at Circuit Paul Ricard, with drivers Matt Campbell and Logan Sargeant at the wheel. Ford Racing confirmed the session went "smoothly and according to plan."
  • Developing this ORECA-based prototype for a 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship debut, engineers fitted a 5.4L Coyote-based V8 engine built at the Dearborn facility. Ford Racing chief powertrain engineer Christian Hertrich noted the team opted for unique architecture to meet high competition levels.
  • Testing began August 5 with several running-in sessions to verify all control systems. All six signed Hypercar drivers, including Campbell, Sargeant, Tom Blomqvist, and Mike Rockenfeller, will participate in the comprehensive test program.
  • Following this initial track test, Ford plans to continue testing the prototype across Europe before homologation. Blomqvist is scheduled to test the car in the coming days, with further feedback expected next week.
  • Aiming for a fifth Le Mans overall victory, the American marque will fight for an FIA World Hypercar Manufacturers' Championship title starting next year. Ford joins competitors like BMW and Alpine in the emerging LMDh category.
