Ford to Recall About 223,500 U.S. Vehicles over Fuel Tank Issues
Dealers will inspect and replace fuel-tank straps free of charge after regulators said loose or leaking tanks could create crash or fire risks.
On Saturday, Ford announced the recall of 223,472 F-150 pickup trucks in the United States due to loose or leaking fuel tanks that may detach while driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned these defects could create crash or fire risks.
Improperly secured fuel tanks create road hazards and engine stall risks, according to regulators. Dealers will inspect and replace fuel tank straps at no cost to customers to address the defect.
Earlier in 2026, Ford recalled 148,663 Mustang vehicles for wiring harness defects, about 741,000 trucks and SUVs for park-system issues, and 1.4 million pickups for software problems. This latest action follows several other large Ford recalls this year.
Repeated recalls can strain dealer service departments, increase warranty costs, and affect consumer confidence in automakers' quality systems. Analysts suggest this trend could pressure Ford and Industry peers to tighten manufacturing quality controls and supplier oversight.
Owners may verify if their vehicle is affected by checking their identification number through the NHTSA recall database. Customers can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for assistance regarding this recall.
