Ford to Recall over 140,000 US Vehicles over Damaged Wires

Ford said a wiring harness and software defect can trigger electrical arcing, and at least four U.S. vehicles showed the problem.

  • Ford Motor is recalling approximately 140,201 Ranger pickup trucks from model years 2024 through 2026 due to faulty sun visor wiring that can overheat and spark fires, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced this week.
  • Investigators found manufacturing problems at the Michigan assembly plant in trucks built between December 9, 2022, and December 28, 2025: protective tape wrapped around wiring was sometimes too thick, and workers lacked tight controls over wire routing, allowing harnesses to press against metal edges and cause A-pillar fires.
  • Between July and September 2025, at least four United States vehicles experienced problems: one caught fire and three showed evidence of scorching or smoke around the sun visor lamp circuit. Ford reports no injuries or crashes related to the issue.
  • Drivers should park vehicles outside until a Ford or Lincoln dealer inspects the wiring harness and performs a free software update to the body control module that cuts power to the sun visor lamp circuit if repeated faults are detected.
  • Starting April 27, Ford will mail interim letters warning owners of the safety risk, with full remedy letters detailing how to schedule the free repair expected to go out in August 2026.
