Slovakia will temporarily renew controls on the Hungarian-Austrian border from Tuesday in connection with foot-and-mouth disease affecting some farm animals - a decision on this was approved by the Bratislava government at its meeting on Monday.

In Sopron, the border was blocked at six in the morning, and the situation soon became similar in Fertőrákos, which was intended as an escape route. In Hegyeshalom, it was easier to get around the border closure introduced due to foot-and-mouth disease.

A lot of patience is needed for commuters from Hungary and Slovakia: they are currently waiting around an hour at the border.

The border controls due to foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) again caused delays in early traffic in Burgenland and Lower Austria on Tuesday. However, cases have not yet been reported.
