Mossad Foils Iranian Plot to Infiltrate Terror Cell Into Israel, Target Senior Officials
The plot was uncovered with help from Israeli and international agencies, and officials said dozens of Iranian attack networks have been disrupted in recent years.
- On Thursday, the Mossad and Israeli Security Agency announced they thwarted a global Iranian terror network that recruited foreign nationals to assassinate senior Israeli officials inside Israel using a "proxy-by-proxy" tactic.
- Tehran employs this "proxy by proxy" method to distance itself from terrorist activity, shielding the state from diplomatic consequences by using middle-men to recruit operatives rather than engaging them directly.
- Two Iran-based proxies, Baba Mahou-Zadeh Haji Jafan and Mehmet Nedim Yigit , recruited French-Muslim citizen Tarout Ozokor, known as "Philip," to form an operational terror cell before French authorities expelled him.
- These operations "saved many lives and enabled investigative and legal action against those involved in terrorism," the Mossad said, crediting close cooperation among international intelligence services for the network's disruption.
- Iran's Intelligence Ministry and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have intensified their campaign targeting Israeli and Jewish sites worldwide, with attempted attacks reaching over 50 in recent years.
