Oscar-Tipped Biopic Starring Andrew Scott Will Officially Open London's 2026 BFI Film Festival
Andrew Scott plays Ian Charleson in the true-story drama, which follows his illness and a stage performance that inspired others.
- Focus Features has scheduled a limited release for 'Elsinore' on Nov. 20, with expansion planned over Thanksgiving and throughout December.
- On Oct. 7, 'Elsinore' will open the 70th BFI London Film Festival with its European premiere at the Royal Festival Hall, a venue adjacent to the National Theatre.
- According to official synopses, the film tells the 'inspiring true story of the actor Ian Charleson, who faced incredible odds while preparing to give the performance of his life in Hamlet at the National Theatre in London.'
- Producers Gabrielle Tana, Carolyn Marks Blackwood, Pete Shilaimon, and Mickey Liddell are overseeing the project, while Studiocanal handles global sales across the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Australia, and New Zealand.
- The film arrives in U.K. cinemas on Jan. 29, joining Focus Features' slate that includes Robert Eggers' 'Werwulf', Paul Greengrass' 'The Uprising', and Georgia Oakley's 'Sense and Sensibility' later this year.
