Florida Woman Walking Her Dog Repeatedly Stabbed, Killed in "Vicious, Unprovoked" Attack, Sheriff's Office Says
Authorities say 24-year-old Kersten Francilus was charged after a woman in her mid-70s was fatally stabbed in a random attack.
- On Thursday, 24-year-old Kersten Francilus was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after fatally stabbing a woman in her 70s in the Southwood community of Stuart, Florida.
- Prior to the attack, residents reported Francilus walking door-to-door asking for a "new bank," Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said, noting the suspect had no known criminal history.
- A deputy arrived to find Francilus "actively stabbing" the victim in a cul-de-sac while a civilian attempted to intervene, the sheriff explained. The suspect disengaged and surrendered upon the deputy's arrival.
- The victim succumbed to injuries at Cleveland Clinic Martin South after sustaining significant stab wounds to her upper torso. Investigators confirmed there is no known connection between the woman and Francilus.
- Authorities interviewed the suspect's family, who said the steak knife used came from their home. Francilus is currently being held without bond on a first-degree premeditated murder charge.
