Florida Turns to Steve Spurrier Jr. to Help Quarterback DJ Lagway Moving Forward

Interim coach Billy Gonzales elevated Steve Spurrier Jr. to the sideline Wednesday to work directly with quarterback DJ Lagway and review film ahead of Nov. 1 against Georgia.
Following Napier's firing Sunday, Billy Napier was dismissed largely for failing to get Florida Gators offense on track over four seasons, with UF averages an SEC-low 17 points and combined 50 points in losses.
Battling offseason surgery and nagging injuries, DJ Lagway, sophomore quarterback, threw for 1,513 yards with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions, including a five-interception night at LSU.
Putting Ryan O'Hara in the booth to call plays, Gonzales said, `What we're trying to do right now is tweak a couple things so we can put our players in a better situation to go out and make plays and perform at a higher level`, while Russ Callaway organizes the offense.
Given the Spurrier legacy in Gainesville, Steve Spurrier Jr., 54, who coached at Tulsa, Mississippi State, Oklahoma and more, carries his father’s Hall of Fame weight into the Nov. 1 game.
