Florida Seeks Death Penalty in Semi-Truck Child Abuse Case
Florida prosecutors say four children were kept in a tractor-trailer cab for years and suffered abuse, neglect and injuries that left some with scars.
- Attorney General James Uthmeier announced his office will pursue the death penalty against Keisha Monique Epps, 51, and her fiancé, 37-year-old Tamra Marshon Stewart, who allegedly kept four children living in a truck cab for up to seven years.
- Florida's top prosecutor described the tractor-trailer cab as a "rolling prison" and crime scene where Epps allegedly forced the children to live while working a Miami-to-Atlanta trucking route for years.
- The victims, two girls and two boys aged 5, 6, and 9, were allegedly barred from school and denied medical care; investigators found one child had an untreated infection and two bore serious burn scars.
- Epps and Stewart remain jailed in Duval County on charges including sexual battery and child molestation; Stewart is held without bond while Epps' bond is set at $400,000.
