Flight 1978 and Messi’s No 10: Argentina’s arrival in US doubles as tribute to its World Cup success
Reigning World Cup champion Argentina arrived in Kansas City on Sunday, landing at Kansas City International Airport via an Aerolineas Argentinas charter flight shortly after 11 a.m. local time.
Players are staying at the Origin Hotel near the River Market, which features enhanced security, fencing, and large murals of team stars on its facade.
Head Coach Lionel Scaloni revealed his 26-man roster last Thursday, headlined by Lionel Messi, who turns 39 next month, and featuring 17 players from the 2022 championship squad.
The team plays friendlies against Honduras on June 6 in College Station, Texas, and Iceland on June 9 in Auburn, Alabama, before the World Cup campaign begins June 16 against Algeria at Arrowhead Stadium.
Argentina is the first of four base camp teams to arrive in the Kansas City metro, while England, the Netherlands, and Algeria are expected within the next two weeks, with Algeria housed at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
