Flemming’s final flourish sees Burnley battle back
Zian Flemming scored a penalty and a stoppage-time equalizer as Burnley erased a 2-0 deficit and earned Nicky Hayen a first league point.
Burnley salvaged a 2-2 draw against West Ham on Sunday, as Zian Flemming scored twice late to overturn a two-goal deficit at Turf Moor. The result denied West Ham victory in their opening Championship fixture.
West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo saw his side take a commanding lead through Max Kilman's 10th-minute goal and Manor Solomon's strike in the 72nd minute, controlling possession for much of the opening 45 minutes.
Zian Flemming converted an 83rd-minute penalty after Ollie Scarles fouled Marcus Edwards, then found the net again in stoppage time. The equalizer prevented Burnley's first home Championship defeat since April 2023.
Nuno Espirito Santo expressed disappointment, saying West Ham "should have done better to keep the result," while Nicky Hayen urged Zian Flemming to remain at Turf Moor despite rising transfer interest.
Both relegated clubs aim for immediate Premier League returns. West Ham broke their Championship transfer record with a £22million deal for Arne Engels, while Burnley added Chelsea youngster Dastan Satpayev on loan.
