Flames destroy house on Horsefly Road near Williams Lake
Neighbours launched a GoFundMe to help the displaced family after the blaze destroyed their home and left one pet dead, officials said.
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, a structural fire destroyed a home on Horsefly Road near 150 Mile House southeast of Williams Lake. Regional Fire Chief Roger Hollander confirmed emergency crews responded to flames at approximately 8:45 a.m.
The 150 Mile Volunteer Fire Department led the response, with assistance from the Miocene Volunteer Fire Department and the Williams Lake Fire Department. Hollander praised the coordinated effort of these regional teams during the operation.
Homeowner Lana Wilson, who operates Rustic Country Candles at the Prosperity Ridge Shopping Centre, was away during the fire. While the occupant avoided injury, a dog unfortunately perished in the blaze.
Neighbor Kayla Bush launched a GoFundMe to assist Wilson and her family; the Cariboo Regional District is simultaneously providing Emergency Social Services support to those affected by the fire.
Dawson Road Maintenance fully reopened the area near Dugan Lake by afternoon following the fire, ending the temporary closure that had impacted regional traffic while crews managed the emergency scene.
