Five Killed, 20 Injured as Bus Plunges Into Drain in Hafizabad

Rescue 1122 said the bus fell into a drain and blamed speeding as teams shifted the injured to hospitals.

  • On Thursday, a passenger bus overturned and plunged into a drainage channel near Fatehke in Pindi Bhattian, Hafizabad district, killing five people and injuring more than 27 others, Rescue 1122 said.
  • The bus was traveling from Raiwind to Chiniot to attend the Tablighi Ijtema when eyewitnesses reported the driver became drowsy while making a U-turn, causing the vehicle to lose control.
  • Emergency teams from Pindi Bhattian were immediately dispatched and provided first aid to 20 injured passengers before transferring them to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
  • The deceased were identified as Ahmad, Adil, Mazakar Mubeen, Arslan Farooq, and Muhammad Ali, with the recovery operation supervised by District Emergency Officer Engineer Abdul Rasheed.
  • A similar accident occurred in August 2022 near Solangi Kharl in Hafizabad district, where seven people died and 24 were injured when a bus fell into a pond; rescue officials attributed that incident to speeding.
