The Swiss Thomas Tumler unexpectedly took the lead in the skiing rankings in the first run of the men's Alpine World Cup giant slalom in Beaver Creek on Sunday. Even more surprising than that is the 35-year-old's lead; only the Slovenian Zan Kranjec kept the gap under one second at 0.56 seconds. Third place went to the Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath (+1.01). The best of the six Austrians who competed was Stefan Brennsteiner in tenth place (+1.54).
The 35-year-old Swiss Thomas Tumler is clearly ahead after the first run. The Austrians have made up huge gaps.
