First-time NASCAR Cup winner Corey Heim reaffirms Denny Hamlin’s shrewd eye for talent
Heim won in only his 13th Cup start, giving 23XI Racing another first-time winner and strengthening Denny Hamlin’s reputation for spotting talent.
On Sunday, Corey Heim secured his first NASCAR Cup Series victory at the inaugural Anduril 250, outdueling points leader Tyler Reddick at Naval Base Coronado.
23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin has long mentored Heim, developing the young driver for a full-time 2027 roster spot with the organization.
A sellout crowd of 50,000 fans gathered at the military base, while the weekend event drew 125,000 attendees despite NASCAR limiting capacity to manage traffic on Coronado Island.
By winning in only his 13th career start, Heim said, 'The pace was there, the car was really good,' validating Hamlin's confidence in the young driver.
NASCAR chief operating officer Ben Kennedy vowed to schedule at least one annual street race, eyeing military bases in the Pacific Northwest and Colorado for future expansion.
