Lyft Stock Soars 20% on Waymo Nashville Robotaxi Deal

Waymo and Lyft revealed a collaboration on Wednesday to introduce an autonomous ride-hailing service in Nashville, Tennessee, with public availability planned for next year.
This move follows Waymo’s earlier collaborations with Uber in Atlanta and Austin, while Lyft previously partnered with Waymo on a limited pilot in Phoenix in 2019.
Waymo has been conducting trials in Nashville using Jaguar I-Pace electric self-driving cars for several months, while Lyft’s subsidiary Flexdrive manages the fleet’s cleaning and upkeep.
This summer, Waymo reached over 100 million miles driven entirely by autonomous vehicles and became the first company authorized to conduct test rides from San Francisco airport, reinforcing its position as a leader in the U.S. self-driving car industry.
The partnership indicates Waymo’s strategy to diversify alliances by working with Lyft instead of Uber in Nashville, aiming to expand commercial robotaxi deployments across multiple cities next year.
