At auction house NLB Auctions, based in Paignton, County Devon, southwest England, a copy of the first edition of JK Rowling's debut about the witch's apprentice Harry Potter sold for 18,000 British pounds (21,605 euros). The sold copy of Harry Potter and the Stone of Wisdom is one of the first 500 copies printed in 1997.

The first edition of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" was printed in only 500 copies. The book was one of 300 intended for public libraries and is in very good condition. A similar edition sold for £42,000, and this one for £21,000 at a public auction. A copy of the Harry Potter series of books was saved from the trash at the last minute.
