Filip Gustavsson’s return to Wild net still 'quite a ways' away
Coach John Hynes said Gustavsson is at least a month away, leaving the Wild with three possible No. 1 goalies.
Minnesota Wild coach John Hynes said on Sunday that goalkeeper Filip Gustavsson remains at least another month from returning following offseason hip surgery.
General Manager Bill Guerin signed Calvin Pickard over the summer as a backup to Jesper Wallstedt, providing depth while Gustavsson recovers from hip surgery.
Wallstedt has started seven of the Wild's first eight games this season, while Pickard recorded his lone start last week in a 5-2 loss in Winnipeg.
Upon Gustavsson's return, Guerin may possess three potential No. 1 goalies and could consider a trade to right-size the Minnesota roster.
The organization recently won four Upper Midwest Emmys for Overall Sports Excellence, with senior director Chris Barriere saying the goal is to "let the fans get to know them better.
