Fitch has raised Portugal's rating from "A" to "A+", with a stable outlook. It is the fourth rating review that the country has recorded in the last two years, the Ministry of Finance highlights.
The country, which had to resort in 2011 to the rescue of the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, now presents more balanced public accounts and a ratio of public debt to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in a fall-down path. This development has improved the financing conditions and strengthened external credibility.
Fifteen years after requesting international financial assistance, Portugal ceased to be one of the countries most affected by the euro area debt crisis to receive Fitch's 'A+' rating, showing the recovery of market confidence.
