FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem Vows to Keep Fernando Alonso in Formula 1
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem is urging Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso to remain in Formula 1, stating that a great champion should not be forced out by poor performance.
The 45-year-old Spaniard has expressed dissatisfaction with Aston Martin's performance and new F1 regulations, securing only three points after 13 races this season.
Speaking at the New Economy Forum in Madrid, Ben Sulayem confirmed he met with Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll to discuss improvements and vowed to persuade Alonso to stay.
Alonso is reportedly considering racing in another series or taking a non-driving role, though Ben Sulayem noted the driver had not mentioned these plans when they last spoke.
The Spanish Formula One Grand Prix returns to Madrid this weekend for the first time in over four decades, with the new venue scheduled to host races until 2035.
