Festival on Lockdown After Sign 'Falls and Injures Multiple People'
On Friday, a sign collapsed at the Big Church Festival in West Sussex, injuring at least six people at the Wiston Estate site near Steyning shortly after 3:30 p.m. Emergency services responded immediately.
The Big Church Festival, described as the UK's largest Christian festival, cancelled Friday's program due to what organizers cited as a 'serious incident' at the venue.
Sussex Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service deployed critical care paramedics and specialist response teams to the Washington Road site, working alongside emergency service partners.
Organizers directed all day visitors to leave immediately, writing on social media: 'All day visitors must leave the site now.' Campers were instructed to return to their tents and await updates.
Police warned of traffic disruption in the local area and urged the public to seek alternative routes. Organizers pledged to 'share further updates as soon as we can' regarding the ongoing situation.
