Kootenay ferry strike hurting region's economy, mental health: business leaders
The Kootenay Lake ferry strike is causing financial damage to businesses and workers, leading to cancelled or delayed activities and layoffs, according to an East Shore Chamber of Commerce survey.
Megan Rokeby-Thomas reported her restaurant has reduced hours and laid off staff due to the strike's impact on business operations.
Chamber president Garrett Garbula mentioned that the strike is causing stress and impacting the mental health of the community, stating, 'It's not only financial, but it's just the stress of not knowing.'
Rokeby-Thomas expressed frustration, saying the community feels ignored by governments and is seeking more support from officials.
