After starting the season off on a high note, with a statement win against Pittsburg State and a 38-3 home opener victory against Bentley. The Ferris State Bulldogs football team travels to Ellensburg, Washington, to take on the Central Washington Wildcats. The home opener victory marked the Bulldogs’ 32nd straight win against Bentley, which made the playoffs and won its division last season.  Senior defensive back Jeremiah Housey spoke about how he feels about his team’s identity. “This team has its own identity this season; we never try to compare past and present teams,” Housey said. “Each team is different in their own ways. This team is focused on taking it day by day and winning one game at a time.” The home opener saw the offense explode for 477 yards and 38 points, headed by sophomore quarterback Wyatt Bower. These include senior running back Zak Ahern, junior quarterback LeeShaun Mumpfield, and Housey. On the defensive side of the ball, the Bulldogs only allowed three points while allowing a total of 381 yards. Senior defensive lineman Tim Allen led the defense, totaling five tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack. The Ferris State Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 in GLIAC) will travel to Washington to take on the Central Washington Wildcats (0-1, 0-0 in LSC) in what will be the Wildcats home opener. Central Washington is led on offense by senior running back Ryder Bumgarner. Bumgarner is coming off a game that saw him rush 21 times for 99 yards, and three catches for 39 yards. While last season Bumgarner ran for 490 yards, averaging 5.9 yards per carry, and five touchdowns. The Wildcats on defense is led by junior defensive back Omar Lazcano, who last week against RV Cal Poly, totaled 10 tackles, and two tackles for loss. Bower believes his squad is prepared for the matchup against the Wildcats. “I feel that we have prepared very well this week against the Wildcats,” Bower said. “I know we are just going to play our game, and execute it to the best of our abilities.” Throughout the season a standout player on offense for the Bulldogs has been Ahern, who has 16 rushes for 119 yards which is good for 7.4 yards per carry, along with three touchdowns. Ahern also has secured one catch for 57 yards and a touchdown. On defense, the Bulldogs have seen a number of players start to break out in their first year as a starter, one of these being redshirt freshman Tre’Quori Rollerson. Rollerson has totaled eight tackles, three tackles for loss, and an interception, this coming in his first career game against Pittsburg State. Sophomore quarterback Chase Carter is eager to see who can step up this season. “Just like every year there are some key guys who are returning, and some guys stepping into roles that were left behind,” Carter said. “We have remained dedicated to the notion that the only team that can beat us is us.” The Ferris State Bulldogs will travel to Ellensburg, Washington to take on the Central Washington Wildcats at Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium, at 9 p.m. EST, 6 p.m. PST.

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation’s top-ranked Ferris State University football squad will get nationwide attention on Saturday (Sept. 12) night as the Bulldogs’ top 10 showdown versus #9 Central Washington will air live on Amazon Prime.
