B.C. to Receive $326M This Year for Community Infrastructure Projects
The $326 million funding supports infrastructure projects including transit, water, and recreation to address population growth and housing challenges, officials said.
In Surrey, Federal Housing Minister Gregor Robertson announced $326 million for B.C. communities on Tuesday, delivered via the Canada Community-Building Fund and administered by the Union of B.C. Municipalities.
To support housing and livability, the federal funding responds to City of Coquitlam's growing infrastructure shortfalls, as Mayor Richard Stewart highlights provincial housing policy passed in 2023 reduced financing access.
In B.C., the program is delivered through the Union of B.C. Municipalities, which administers funds for 19 project categories including public transit, wastewater, drinking water, and recreational projects.
The Tri-Cities will receive nearly $1 million in 2025-26—Coquitlam $543,971, Port Coquitlam $262,257, Port Moody $171,842—but local finance officials caution this funding falls short of the total need.
Ottawa's broader pledge reflects a $26.7 billion national commitment for 2024–2034, with B.C. slated to receive $1.6 billion over five years.
