Federal Way’s St. Francis now offers life-saving postpartum care program
The program now includes a Community Health Worker and serves 512 postpartum patients with blood pressure and mood disorder risks, officials said.
St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way has launched the PWR Program, expanding the postpartum wellness initiative beyond its original pilot site at St. Anne Hospital in Burien.
A $781,799 grant from CommonSpirit's Mission and Ministry Fund supports the expansion, funding a new Community Health Worker to address patients' social needs like transportation and coordination, Perinatal Nurse Navigator Lacey Parsadmehr said.
Virtual monitoring and weekly check-ins allow Nurse Navigators to stabilize blood pressure and mood, addressing the critical window when 38% of pregnancy-related deaths occur between 43 days and one year postpartum.
Local mother Jazman DeWitt credited the PWR Program with saving her life, describing an 'overwhelming journey' to stabilize her blood pressure and mood without relying on medications.
Jennifer Fletcher, Community Health Integration RN at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, stated the program serves as a 'blueprint' for maternal healthcare, aiming to influence other hospital systems to adopt similar proactive care models.
