Federal Union Announces Strike Votes for 120,000 Federal Public Servants
The union says the government refused to negotiate on wages, job security, remote work and artificial intelligence protections.
On Wednesday, the Public Service Alliance of Canada announced 120,000 federal workers will hold nationwide strike votes after contract talks with the federal government broke down.
The Treasury Board refused to negotiate on wages, job security, remote work, and artificial intelligence protections after 18 months of talks, prompting the union's action.
In 2023, 155,000 federal public servants spent two weeks on picket lines across Canada, winning wage increases amounting to 12.6 per cent over the agreement's term.
Affected workers include wildland firefighters, passport and benefit officers, fishery officers, federal teachers, librarians, and administrative staff represented by PSAC.
Voting will take place from Nov. 16 to Jan. 22 as union members determine whether to authorize job action in the ongoing labor dispute.
