Federal Liberals choose new national director

On Thursday, the Liberal Party announced lawyer Jessica Cardill as its new national director, filling a crucial backroom post overseeing daily operations under Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Cardill previously served as the party's in-house legal counsel for more than five years before joining lobbying firm Barrack Hill Public Affairs last year.
She replaces Azam Ishmael, who stepped down in May after serving as national director for roughly a decade and joined the Canadian Medical Association.
The party faces three by-elections on August 31, which will determine whether the Liberals maintain their majority in the House of Commons.
Cardill stated she is committed to helping the Liberal organization grow, saying "Together, we will ensure our teams have the support" to back Carney's leadership.
