The reform of the taxation of housing will come into force on 1 January 2029, decided on Wednesday the Federal Council. The taxation of the rental value for the dwellings occupied by their owner will thus be abolished.

From the tax year 2029 onwards, the own rental value on owner-occupied residential property no longer has to be taxed. This was decided by the Federal Council on Wednesday. Thus, the demand of the mountain cantons for an abolition is not met before 2030.

The self-rental value will fall from 2029. That's what the Federal Council decided on Wednesday. It implements the people's will.
