Gold Star Distribution recalled hundreds of FDA-regulated products after inspectors found rodent and bird contamination, affecting over 50 stores across Minnesota and nearby states.
On Friday, Gold Star Distribution Inc. announced a wide-ranging recall after federal inspectors found rodent and bird contamination at its north Minneapolis distribution facility, covering all FDA-regulated products.
FDA inspectors documented rodent excreta, rodent urine and bird droppings in product storage areas, and the FDA said those insanitary conditions risk contamination with filth, Salmonella, and Leptospira.
Consumers and retailers are urged to destroy affected items immediately and not return them, while Gold Star Distribution Inc. will provide refunds and verify destruction at 612-617-9800.
No illnesses have been reported, but the FDA said contaminated medical devices and products could increase infection risk, with Salmonella symptoms including fever, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
The recall is being conducted with FDA knowledge, including household brands like JIF peanut butter and Pringles distributed at numerous grocery, international and specialty retailers.
