FDA recalls more shrimp due to radioactive threat
Over 44,000 packages of shrimp from Indonesia were recalled after detection of radioactive cesium-137, with no illnesses reported but long-term cancer risk noted by the FDA.
The FDA has issued a recall for over 26,000 packages of AquaStar cocktail shrimp sold at Walmart locations across about 30 states during the period from July 31 to August 16, 2025.
The recall followed an FDA investigation that found imported shrimp from Indonesia potentially contaminated with the radioactive isotope cesium-137.
The recalled shrimp came in transparent plastic containers featuring labels with red and white coloring, identified by UPC 19434612191 and lot numbers 10662 5106, 5107, 5124, and 5125; consumers were warned against eating these products.
No illnesses have been reported to date, but the FDA warns that even low-level exposure to cesium-137 can elevate cancer risk and cause radiation sickness over time.
Consumers can return recalled shrimp for a full refund, and federal officials continue investigating the contamination source while emphasizing the health risk appears low.
