More than 60,000 SUVs Recalled Due to Issue that Could Cause Loss of Drive Power, Rollaways
The defect can cause loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway, and owner notification letters are expected by June 25, officials said.
Stellantis announced a recall of 61,711 Jeep Cherokees on May 12, 2026, due to a potentially failing power transfer unit affecting certain 2019-2023 vehicles sold in the United States.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall, stating a failed power transfer unit may result in loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway, increasing crash and injury risk.
Stellantis is currently developing a remedy, while interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed by June 25, 2026.
Starting May 14, 2026, owners can search vehicle identification numbers on the NHTSA website to verify if their vehicle is affected. The recall is identified under company number 40D.
