Father receives life sentence in New York for murder of Montreal girl
Judge Tatiana Coffinger rejected a bid to overturn the verdict, and Frattolin will not be eligible for parole for 25 years.
A Montreal man was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday for killing his nine-year-old daughter, Melina Frattolin, whose body was found in a rural New York marsh.
The sentence follows an August 10 conviction in Essex County Court, where a jury found Luciano Frattolin guilty of second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse.
Judge Tatiana Coffinger rejected a motion to set aside the guilty verdict, ruling Frattolin ineligible for parole for at least 25 years.
Following the sentencing, the defence issued a formal notice of appeal to challenge the conviction and keep legal proceedings active.
In Elizabethtown, New York, authorities took Frattolin into custody on July 24, 2026, marking the start of legal proceedings that culminated in Wednesday's sentencing.
The Montrealer Luciano Frattolin, is sentenced to life imprisonment without possibility of release before 25 years for the second degree murder of his daughter Melina.
Luciano Frattolin will spend at least the next 25 years of his life in prison for the murder of his daughter, Melina Frattolin, drowned in a marsh in New York State in the summer of 2025.
