`Fastball Freddy' Peralta Earns ALCS MVP Award After Pitching the Rays Into the World Series
The right-hander posted a 2-0 record with a 0.75 ERA in the ALCS after a mid-season trade revitalized his performance with Tampa Bay.
On Monday, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Freddy Peralta was named American League Championship Series MVP after the Rays defeated the Cleveland Guardians in six games.
Acquired from the New York Mets in an Aug 2 trade, Peralta posted a 5-2 record with a 3.25 ERA in 10 starts for Tampa Bay, reversing a season marked by a 4.99 ERA in New York.
During the American League Championship Series, Peralta compiled a 0.75 ERA over three appearances. He tossed six scoreless innings in Game 2 and secured crucial outs in relief in Game 4.
The World Series matchup features Peralta facing the Milwaukee Brewers, the team where he spent eight seasons after making his debut in 2018. He aims to deliver the Rays their first title.
Returning to Milwaukee will be emotional for Peralta, but he credits the Rays' clubhouse atmosphere for his turnaround. "I'm very happy to be here," Peralta said.
