Farmers staged a protest in Gelderland and Drenthe on Wednesday evening. In Meppel, among other places, a large number of tractors gathered on the outskirts of the city during the course of the evening. They then went on a tour, driving past the town hall, an ANP photographer observed. The protest was held out of dissatisfaction with, among other things, the removal of inverted flags by the municipality.
The police will not stop farmers driving their tractors on the highway to Den Bosch on Friday. This was stated by a police spokesperson for the East Brabant unit. Many farmers from within and outside the province are expected for a protest action at the North Brabant provincial government building. The Provincial Council will debate the revocation of poultry farmers' permits on Friday.
It promises to be a hot Friday in Den Bosch, where farmers are protesting in temperatures of 35 degrees against what they see as the ‘Brabant permit scandal’. The activists are receiving support from the right wing.
Following the flag protest in the city center of Meppel, the farmers want to take their protest a step further on Wednesday evening. Tonight, they will drive a number of tractors straight through the city center. The municipality of Meppel is prepared and has granted permission.
