Farmer Sprays Slurry on Day-Trippers' Cars Parked Illegally at Beauty Spot
Phone footage shows at least 20 vehicles covered after a farmer retaliated against visitors who parked on private land without permission.
On Tuesday, a Lake District farmer sprayed slurry over at least 20 vehicles illegally parked on private land near Rydal Water, including a Black Mercedes drenched in the foul-smelling waste.
Motorists reportedly bypassed barriers by moving rocks to access the field, ignoring signs reading "Polite Notice- DO NOT PARK IN THE FIELD" and "SHEEP IN FIELD."
Witness Dylan Wakley recorded the aftermath, noting locals dubbed the incident "countryside karma," while online supporters suggested the farmer "should get a bonus from the carwash company."
Cumbria Police confirmed they were made aware of reports at 10 p.m. on May 25 and are investigating, reiterating warnings to park in an "appropriate place" following the "highway code."
Parking in the beauty spot has been a long-standing issue, with pressures intensifying during bank holidays and summer months, highlighting ongoing tensions between visitors and rural landowners in the Lake District.
