The tornado occurred amid two confirmed twisters that prompted National Weather Service warnings for southeastern Utah and western Colorado starting at 1:30 p.m.
The tornado inflicted extensive damage in Montezuma Creek, completely destroying a pair of residences, a couple of horse trailers, a barn used for storing hay, and a fifth-wheel trailer, while also toppling several power poles and causing disruptions to utilities.
Displaced families were initially sheltered at Montezuma Creek Elementary School before being relocated to hotels in the area, with victim advocates planning to offer support and counseling services.
Officials reported no human injuries or fatalities but noted multiple missing pets and livestock, including five dogs, and Navajo police offered prayers to affected families.
