Fallen KSP Trooper Hayden Phillips' Body Returned to Hometown
The order honors the three-year Kentucky State Police veteran after he was shot and killed during a traffic stop, officials said.
- On Monday, Sept. 28, Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 65 in Warren County. The 28-year-old officer, assigned to Post 3 in Bowling Green, leaves behind his wife and three children.
- Louisville Metro Police arrested 51-year-old Emonnie Branch in Louisville hours after the shooting, ending an hours-long manhunt. Branch, of Portland, Tennessee, is held at Warren County Regional Jail facing murder charges for killing a first responder.
- A procession escorted Phillips' body to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow on Tuesday, with community members lining the route to pay respects. Funeral services are scheduled for noon CDT Sunday at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green.
- Governor Andy Beshear ordered flags at all state buildings lowered to half-staff through Sunday, Oct. 4, to honor the fallen trooper. The Kentucky State Police Foundation is accepting official donations to support Phillips' widow, Jordan Phillips, and their three children.
- Communities held vigils, including one at Kentucky State Police Post 15 on Thursday, to remember Phillips' legacy as a devoted father, coach, and public servant. Colleagues described the 28-year-old as a "very serious police officer" who maintained a deep love for those he protected.
