The 17-day race features 152 vehicles and nearly 300 competitors as Sinopec’s Aipao 103 becomes the event’s official fuel.
On Saturday, May 16, the 2026 China Taklimakan Rally officially kicked off in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with 152 vehicles and nearly 300 competitors from 74 teams embarking on a 7,500-kilometer extreme journey.
China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation serves as the exclusive sponsor, providing its Aipao racing fuel with an RON exceeding 103, designed specifically for extreme racing conditions.
To support the 7,500-kilometer journey, Sinopec deployed over 40 mobile refueling points along the route. Competitors will traverse the Taklimakan Desert and Tianshan Mountains, passing through Turpan, Hotan, and Aksu.
Chen Yanbin, director and senior vice president of Sinopec, stated the company aims to "deepen the integration of energy, sports, and tourism" to drive high-quality growth in Xinjiang and contribute to the Belt and Road Initiative.
Spanning 17 days, this year's rally sets a new distance record while traversing northern and southern Xinjiang. The Aipao brand, valued at more than 18 billion yuan, continues to lead China's fuel market with over 10 million users.
