The Block Set for Tense Finale with New Auction Hurdle
Five renovated homes will go under the hammer with public reserve prices of $3.45 million, changing the auction stakes under new Victorian rules.
On Saturday, Queensland friends Courtney Kain and Sevilay Keser won The Block 2026 after their Mount Eliza home sold for $4.72 million, $1.27 million above the $3.45 million reserve.
New Victorian laws required all auction properties to disclose $3.45 million reserve prices seven days before sale, creating uncertainty as the market faced struggling 50 per cent clearance rates.
All five homes sold despite market headwinds; father-daughter team Rick and Tayla Peroomal secured second place with House 5 selling for $4.355 million, netting a $905,000 profit.
Other couples also achieved strong results; Lisa and Rosco Wilson earned $550,000, while Jolene and Adam Wagner pocketed $455,000 from their auctions.
The 100 per cent clearance rate defied weak market predictions, with Domain managing editor Alice Stolz noting high-quality homes on Mount Eliza's golden mile proved resilient.
