The annual report on the promotion of healthy food, presented on this day 24, by DGS, has two positive news: one on breastfeeding, the other on the tax on sugar drinks, which reduced them by 45% in a decade. But, in general, the food of the Portuguese is still inadequate. The great challenge for the future will be the fight against overweight and obesity.
Most measures to promote healthy eating have levels of agreement higher than 80% in the population, with greater support for those that promote a healthy supply in institutional contexts, especially for children, reveals a study by DGS.
Almost half of one-year-old children in Portugal had exclusive breastfeeding until six months in 2025.
Proportion of exclusively breastfed babies up to six months reaches 46.9% in 2025, the highest value recorded in Portugal.
