Evidence of ‘siege warfare’ discovered in ‘cradle of civilization’
Evidence of siege warfare dating back 4,000 years has been found in the area known as the 'cradle of civilization' in northern Mesopotamia.
Archaeologists discovered collapsed structures, human remains, burned layers, and debris indicating a coordinated and possibly prolonged assault at the ancient site of Kurd Qaburstan.
At Kurd Qaburstan, researchers uncovered cuneiform tablets, large-scale destruction, mass graves, and citywide fortifications.
Earley-Spadoni stated that these findings provide the clearest archaeological case of Middle Bronze Age siege warfare in northern Mesopotamia.
