Thousands of ceramic poppies in form of warplane honors WWII heroes
- On May 8, the Tower of London will display an arrangement of 30,000 red ceramic poppies flowing down its walls as part of "The Tower Remembers," commemorating 80 years since the conclusion of World War II.
- This tribute builds on a 2014 poppy installation at the Tower’s moat that commemorated World War I and symbolized damage from the Blitz bombing during World War II.
- Volunteers will install the ceramic poppies over ten days, placing them to flow from the White Tower through the inner ward and extend into the south moat under the original artists’ direction.
- Harshida Amin, a volunteer assembling poppies, highlighted the display’s importance for representing soldiers from British colonies and emphasized the need for future generations to remember this sacrifice.
- Visitors can view the installation from May 8 through November 11, honoring the final significant World War II anniversary with veterans present to share their experiences.
