EV Reprieve: BMW Confirms Next-Generation X5 M Will Pack a V-8 Engine

  • BMW Korea expects the new iX3 electric SUV to drive significant sales, having already secured more than 4,500 preorders ahead of deliveries beginning in July. The iX3 is the automaker's first mass-produced model built on the Neue Klasse design language.
  • Recently revealed by BMW, the fifth-generation X5 represents a major evolution since its 1999 debut. It introduces five distinct powertrain options—petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, electric, and hydrogen—all built on the brand's updated CLAR architecture.
  • Launching on BMW's Gen6 platform with 800-volt architecture, the all-electric iX5 60 xDrive features a 144-kWh battery pack providing an estimated 435 miles of range. Its dual-motor powertrain produces 570 horsepower and 593 pound-feet of torque.
  • Inside, the new X5 incorporates a minimalist layout featuring a 17.9-inch touchscreen and a Panoramic Vision display spanning the windshield's base. The cabin replaces traditional physical buttons with haptic feedback controls and utilizes natural materials including slate.
  • While deliveries begin in Korea this July, the wider global rollout of the new X5 starts in October. BMW intends to speed up EV adoption by embedding next-generation digital technology and electric powertrains into this iconic nameplate.
