The Eurovision Song Contest kicked off in Vienna with the first semi-final night. Slovenia does not have a representative this year due to a boycott of the organizers, who allowed Israel to participate, but on the first night, Croatia, Serbia and Israel, among others, secured their place in the final.

The viewers were able to watch the first show of the musical competition on TVR 1. Romania will enter the competition on Thursday, in the second semifinal.
