The hate speech in Portugal recorded an "incentive increase", according to the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, an organ of the Council of Europe, which warns for an online growth and criticises the "anti-immigrant speech in political discussions".
In the sixth report, the Commission against Racism and Intolerance recommends the creation of tools for police to deal with hate crimes and alerts to communities living in 'framing conditions'.
This is one of the concerns registered in the report released today by the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), after monitoring the situation of racism and intolerance in Portugal. The researchers say they are concerned about “the increase in online hate speech” and about inflammatory and divisive speech that is used by some politicians.
The Council of Europe's anti-racism Commission highlights cases of hate-based violence with neo-nazi groups involved. Portugal must improve police action with hate crimes.
