Euro champion England's path to 2027 Women's World Cup starts in playoffs against Greece
England will face Greece and then Slovakia or Ukraine as UEFA’s playoffs decide seven European places for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
On Thursday, European champion England drew Greece for the first round of qualifying playoffs toward the 2027 Women's World Cup, with Slovakia or Ukraine awaiting in the second round should they advance.
The Lionesses entered the playoff bracket after finishing second in their Nations League group behind Spain, which secured automatic qualification for the 2027 tournament in Brazil alongside Denmark, France, and Germany.
Thirty-Two teams remain in the draw to decide seven European places for the 2027 finals; Belgium and Poland face each other in a notable opening tie, while the Republic of Ireland plays Kazakhstan.
First-Round matches are scheduled for October, with the second round following in November and December, while the eighth bracket winner advances to intercontinental playoffs in February for the final spot.
England manager Sarina Wiegman remains "very positive" about qualification prospects as the European champions seek to return to the global stage following their 2023 World Cup final appearance.
