Together, Arla and the German dairy giant DMK want to create the "strongest dairy cooperative in Europe". The European Commission is now opening the way for the merger. The EU excludes a threat to competition for several reasons.
The German cooperative DMK and the Danish-Swedish industry giant Arla Foods are allowed to merge without any restrictions, thus bringing together more than 12,000 dairy farmers in the future.
The European Commission has approved a major dairy merger involving the Dutch DOC Kaas. Brussels has given permission for the Swedish-Danish dairy cooperative Arla Foods to acquire the German DMK and DOC Kaas, which dates back to 1895. The Commission sees no reason to impose conditions because there are no risks to competition.
Millions turned into billions.
Last year, Arla announced that it wanted to merge, and on Thursday the EU finally approved the decision.
