MEPs and European states sealed an agreement on Wednesday night to Thursday to develop plants derived from new genomic techniques (NGT) in European agriculture, they announced.
Qualified as "new GMOs" by their critics, these NGTs allow to modify the genome of a plant but without introducing foreign DNA, unlike first-generation GMOs.
"New genomic techniques" will appear in agriculture after an agreement between the European Parliament and the Member States last night.
In many cases, genetically modified foods no longer need to be specifically labelled.
