The European Union has added eight additional individuals suspected of serious human rights violations to its new sanctions list.
The EU today imposed sanctions on eight individuals responsible for serious human rights violations, the repression of civil society and democratic opposition, and the undermining of the rule of law in Russia. The restrictive measures target members of the Russian judiciary and heads of penal colonies where several political prisoners were held.

On Monday, the Twenty-Seven approved the sanction of eight people held responsible for human rights violations, repression of civil society and the opposition, as well as undermining the rule of law and democracy, freezing their assets in the EU and banning them from entering Community territory.
