Estonia has strengthened security measures along its eastern EU external border with neighboring Russia. The border crossings in Narva, Koidula and Luhama have been equipped with gates and roadblocks that can be closed in seconds if necessary, stopping the movement of people and vehicles, Estonian Radio reported. The work began last month and cost a total of 3.1 million euros. Concrete blocks had already been erected as a barrier.
Stricter controls, concrete barriers and now also folding doors and roadblocks: Estonia strengthens the protection of its border with Russia.

The reinforcement stems from an incident at the end of 2023, when the Russian side allegedly allowed the passage of 30 people who did not have the necessary documentation to complete their entry into Estonia, a country that is part of both the EU and NATO.
